Hi, I’m Natalie — the face behind Blow51.
Hairdressing has pretty much always been part of my life. I started at just 14 years old, and over the years my career has taken me in directions I never could have imagined.
Before opening my own salon, I worked across TV, film and photoshoots, which gave me some amazing experience working in completely different environments and with all types of hair.
I’ve now owned my salon for over 10 years, where I still work behind the chair with my regular clients as well as celebrity and high-profile clients. I also work with L’Oréal Professionnel, creating content for the brand and attending influencer days where I style hair and share my knowledge.
Outside of hair, I’m a mum of three with a very busy home life. I tend to keep that side of my world private, but like so many working mums, there’s always a lot going on behind the scenes!
How Blow51 started
Blow51 actually began during lockdown, when I launched my own range of professional blowdry brushes. Nearly seven years later, the brand has grown into something much bigger than I originally imagined.
Around three years ago, I started developing what people now know as my Blow51 Bouncy Blowdry.
I was seeing more and more big, bouncy blowouts online, but so many were being created using curling tongs and other hot tools after the blowdry. I wanted to teach hairdressers how to create that same beautiful movement, volume and bounce through the actual blowdry itself.
My technique takes inspiration from old-school hairdressing — particularly the traditional roller and set — but I’ve adapted it into my own modern way of working.
That eventually led to my Blow51 masterclasses and 1:1 education, where I began teaching other hairdressers the techniques I’d developed behind the chair.
Finding my love for education
Teaching wasn’t something I always knew I wanted to do. It’s actually become a real passion of mine as I’ve got older.
And I think being a good educator means never believing you’ve finished learning yourself.
I made the decision to take a year away from teaching so I could concentrate on developing my own knowledge and skills. During that time I’ve invested heavily in education, attending masterclasses with different artists and educators covering everything from colour and hair science to techniques and creative approaches.
I’ve learnt something from every person I’ve trained with — not only about hair, but about how people teach and how different people learn.
Alongside continuing my own education, I’ve also completed my PTLLS teaching qualification, giving me the foundations to become a better and more confident educator.
Now I’m bringing all of that back into Blow51 Education.
I don’t want to teach hairdressers to simply copy what I do. I want them to understand why they’re doing it, build confidence behind the chair and take techniques away that they can adapt to their own clients and their own style.
After more than two decades in the industry, I’m still learning, still evolving and still just as obsessed with good hair.
Blow51 is everything I’ve learnt along the way — and now I get to share it.
